DIY weekend at Casa Pulitzer

OK, so this weekend is DIY extreme makeover home edition at Casa Pulitzer;)  Not sure how extreme it is actually going to be but I have HIGH hopes!!  Mac is going to be in the backyard with fresh mulch and adding "pops" of color to our jungle.  I am (in lieu of the office which needs a little more lead time) going to wallpaper the guest bathroom with family photos and things I deem worthy of decking the walls with.  I started pulling photos, framed canvases, and post cards last night!  This image has been in my idea bin for quite some time and I decided it is TIME to install this in my life:)

Wish me luck!!
Have a GREAT weekend!!!

Chic Work Space, New Home Office:)

I have been stalking design magazines for inspiration for my new work space at home.  All this blogging has me in NEED of a chic space at home to dream up design boards and implement them into my new baby (this blog)  LOL!  I have an odd little nook in my master bedroom that is now SCREAMING for this makeover:)  I also have an infatuation with black and white interiors and this is calling me, KP KP KP!!  I think this cabana look and a new 3G ipad could create the perfect storm for my blogging heaven a la casa!

Trend Spotting

I already mentioned that lots of trends are "born" at Coachella.  This year was no different as the desert beauties were on parade with what will be summers hottest looks.  Cut off denim shorts ruled, especially when paired with flowy tops!  Rompers in neutral colors and small floral prints were a huge hit and perfect for the HOT desert air: ( or the HOT FL air)  :)  Lots of BRIGHT sun glass frames in fun shapes and oversized metallic frames.  I also noticed tons of gladiator sandals like the ones I scored from Zara and patent versions in neon colors.  Looks like this summer should be full of FUN pieces to beat the heat.  No exception at KP.  I have all the trends coming in my current deliveries so the FL girls can be spot on with what is happening in fashion:)

I have tons of great pieces in right now perfect to impress at SUNFEST!!!

Darbster-Have You Been to WPB Hipest Vegan And Raw Spot

Check this out!!  I could hardly believe my ears when a friend told me about a new vegan hot spot right here in West Palm Beach.  Those of you that live in more progressive parts of the world must think this sounds CRAZY but there is NOTHING like this here.  We are so deprived of the things that make a healthy lifestyle convenient.  Sure we have a Whole foods (20 minutes away) but a quick place to grab a healthy lunch, brunch, or a family dinner!!!!  I am super excited.
I am not a vegan,  just more a foodie that really enjoys ALL types of food:)

I would love to hear what the locals think of the spot??
We are heading over for brunch on Sunday:)

HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND

You Don't Know Jacques

I am LOVING my new go to color for my nails and toes!!  OPI's new muddy taupe color they call "You Don't Know Jacques" is so spring 2010.  I like mine with a top coat for a little shine to finish off the look!  I think it only works on short nails but perfect for any pedicure.  It works with all my metallic sandals that are starting to replace their ballerina slipper neighbors in the front of my shoe racks:)

Forever Young - Coachella Style

I must admit I have Coachella envy, I would so enjoy attending this massive music festival for two reasons: cutting edge  bands and people watching!!  Lots of trends are born at this outdoor California mega event.  If you have never heard of this event, you can get more info by clicking here.  I am also obsessed with Jay Z and his remix of "Forever Young".  Yep you heard me right I love Jay Z. He manages to cater to almost every audience and this is a prime example of how he rolls.  We call it "daddys song" in our family because it is hands down Macs current tune on repeat!!
I guess I should not be so SHOCKED he STOLE the show (and this is a tough show to "steal") with this rendition a la Beyonce
Thank heavens for You Tube, I am so treking to Cali for this dream!!!!  2011???

Enjoy
p.s. to fully "get it", you should imagine the crowd was over 75,000strong

Ahhhh an entrie generation celebrating their youth, remember we are all young at heart! I am still 18 right LOL

A Night With The Natives

This weekend is going to be tough to top for a while!!  My spring 2010 runway show was a smashing success, phew!  I showed the collection at Palm Beaches chicest ocean resort, The Omphoy "O" Bar
We packed the house with over 300 guests and closed the place down after dancing all night and lounging in oceanfront cabanas.   DJ Adam Lipson put on and AMAZING all Gutter Boys music set that kept the scene in full motion:)!!

WOW!
Some of Palm Beaches most notorious natives rocked the runway and showcased the talented young designers I represent.  They strutted down a seaside garden runway created with live coastal linear arrangements that were adorned with twig size dried bamboo and miniature glowing lanterns hanging to create the ultimate evening spring stroll.
"O" Bar created a signature cocktail "The Native" that was refreshing and perfect for a Florida evening under the stars. (recipe will be posted in the next few days)

I cannot express how GRATEFUL I am for all my clients and friends who came out to support me,  my boutique and my vision for keeping fashion FUN, Fabulous, and affordable...I am truly overwhelmed and honored that so many of you are loving what I do!!

Remember to do what you love and love what you do!

For me that means immerseing myself in fashion and design, nurture my LOVE of music and dance, and enjoying every minute with my children:)

Nanny's Peach Ice Cream

Not quite sure why but what spring really does is get me EXCITED for summer! One of my fondest childhood summer memories is peach ice cream on my nanny and papas big southern porch.   This weekend got me dreaming of my summers in Fairhope Alabama and that insanely delicious peach ice cream!!

Cannot wait for Summer 2010

  Ingredients

  • 3 large egg yolks
  • 3/4 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 1/2 cups whole milk
  • 2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 large ripe peaches, peeled, halved, pitted, and cut into bite-size chunks

Directions

In a large bowl, whisk together the egg yolks and sugar.
In a large saucepan, bring the cream and milk to a simmer over low heat. Whisking constantly, slowly pour the hot milk mixture into the egg mixture until combined; return the combined mixture to the saucepan. Cook over low heat for 3 to 5 minutes or until the custard has thickened enough to coat the back of the spoon, stirring constantly. Immediately strain the custard into a bowl. Set the bowl in a larger bowl filled with ice water to cool, stirring occasionally.
Stir the lemon juice and vanilla into the cooled custard. Freeze in an ice cream maker according to the manufacturer's instructions, adding the peach chunks halfway through the churning process.

*hand churn it like my nanny did for BEST results;)

Keep Calm and Carry On

I found this little canvas here and had to share!  What a wonderful message to remind yourself of daily!!  If your life is anything like mine and is chocked full of non stop action, you might also enjoy this little reminder:)
The world seems to get more and more complicated as I get older but I know God does not give us anything we cannot handle and EVERYTHING happens for a reason!!
Just "Keep Calm and Carry on" and it will all be ok;)

J Crew preview

J Crew 2010 looks like it is going to appeal to a lot of KP girls:)   It's a lot of luxe in the form of sequins, jewels and feathers, mixed with the wools and tweeds you expect for fall. There are a lot of tone on tone color combinations like amber, brown and blush with pops of "exclamation colors" such as peacock and plum. The utility look continues as well as the  "military" which mixes ball skirts and army jackets. Some models even had twigs in their hair! There was definitely a city girl visits the country feeling for fall.

Palm Beach girls love to fantasize about fall (because it will still be 100 degrees here) , So I thought why not do it now while there is a slight chill in our air!
ENJOY

If you want to see more, check out one of my favorite blogs here  for more pics from the shoot!!

Patatas en Salsa Verde....YUMMY!!!

English Pea, Potato and Rice Soup (Patatas en Salsa Verde)

Makes enough for 4 people

2 Tbs olive oil
2 cloves garlic, thinly sliced
7-8 small yukon gold potatoes, peeled and sliced
2 Tbs parsley, finely chopped
1/4 cup white wine
1 qt water (enough to cover and a bit more)
1/2 cup fresh or frozen english peas
2 Tbs arborio or bomba rice
1 tsp salt
4 eggs, soft boil (optional)

In a large pot, heat the olive oil with the garlic. Cook for about a minute on medium heat. We don't want it to turn brown, just lightly cook. Add the sliced potatoes and cook them in the olive oil for about 2 minutes until you feel they are starting to stick to the pan. Add the chopped parsley and stir.

Add the white wine and let the alcohol evaporate. Cover with water, add the peas, rice and salt. Bring to a boil, lower heat to medium and let it simmer for about 20 minutes until potatoes are tender. taste and adjust salt.

Serve with eggs if desired, fresh parsley, cilantro flowers and toasted bread.

I discovered this food blog-A MUST FOR FOODIES!!
We made this soup over the weekend and I promise it will NOT disappoint!  The flavors literally jump out of the bowl...yummy

Have a great week!

Tips For A Night On The Town

1. Have a few little black dresses. “I have about 10,” Pulitzer says. “You can constantly update [them] with a little clutch or the right piece of jewelry.”
2. Stick to basics. “It’s best to spend a little more on a really pretty, simple piece of jewelry [that you can wear every day], as opposed to a dress that costs the same amount that you will only wear once every few weeks,” Pulitzer says.
3. Avoid silk pieces. They look dressy, but they wrinkle, and you have to dry clean them. Jersey and denim will hold up over time, and you can wash them.
4. Alternate accessories. Wear the necklace tonight and the earrings tomorrow.
5. Go for neutral colors. Black, brown and navy work for all seasons.
6. Strapless styles are very versatile. They look great on their own, and the simple neckline looks elegant under a blazer or with a wrap.
7. Skinny jeans and heels is a great look for going out. To update boot-cut jeans, take them to a tailor and have the volume taken out of the bottoms.
8. Have a suit? Roll up the jacket sleeves, pair it with jeans, fun accessories and heels—and you’ve got a cute evening outfit.

Beach Time

This sums up my beach trip I am planning this weekend.  Yes we live less than a mile from the beach and we will be posted up there all day on Sunday...cannot wait!!  My kids are ready to break out their surf boards and I am ready for some fun in the sun.  Picnic lunch, buckets for collecting "stuff", snorkeling or surfing depending on the conditions, and  all day sun on our bodies=heaven.  We are headed just south of the flagpole in PB and we are totally "stocked"

Kim Coleman Design

I am so excited to see this blue beach house layout in House Beautiful.  This amazing designer is very well know in Palm Beach and New York for her impeccable taste.  I should know, I worked for her for several years.   She is so talented and this national recognition is long overdue in my book.  Kim travels the world and brings  to her clients a worldly air of sophistication.  She has a very special place in my heart and I know you all will love her work.  So refreshing to see  her work especially in Palm Beach where she breaks the mold.  She is the best of the best!!! Cutting my design tooth with Kim was also more fun that can be described:)!!

Beyond Funny

Unless you have been under a rock you know who Chelsea Handler is.  I could not help myself and picked up her new book, it is pee your pants funny.  She just has that way of saying what is probably on your mind.  If you plan to be poolside anytime soon make sure this is in your bag:)!!

Bag Lady

Bag Lady is quite possibly how I will be remembered.  I never seem to have enough and always seem to be coveting at least one new one.  This is my current obsession:)  Tye dye, slouchy, leather trimmed perfection!  Local girls come see me for this and other new spring bags all under $200.00:)!!!
